Dabs Magazine's very own Adam Ill interviews Grassroots California™ which started as a vision of Ryan’s aka Ruga to change the way the world looked at marijuana. Ruga worked in real estate finance for 3 years after graduating from the University of Colorado. While working in real estate he noticed many people in his company profiting from the new legalization of marijuana by leasing buildings for dispensaries, selling warehouses for commercial grow ops but having nothing to do with marijuana its self. Ruga who became a patient after suffering from a surfing injury that fractured his skull in three places started using medical marijuana to help with the pain. After becoming legal and seeing all the benefits of medical marijuana it was Ruga’s vision to spread the word by making a documentary film of what is going on in the California marijuana movement. Ruga worked on a business plan on the weekends while working in Real Estate to plan his escape. Than he landed the opportunity he needed to be able to make his vision come true, he sold an $11 million dollar FedEx building. With his commission check and business plan in hand he said goodbye to the real estate business and hello to his dreams.

Glass artist Seth Brayer currently lives and works in Santa Barbara, CA. He works primarily in borosilicate glass creating original sculpture, marbles, pendants, jewelry and functional glass. Seth uses a centuries-old technique known as lampworking or flameworking in order to shape and manipulate the glass.
His art is highly influenced by his experiences as an underwater photographer and his love for the ocean. Seth is self-taught, with no formal training as a glassblower. He has been steadily blowing glass since 2004, and is continuing to produce very intricate and detailed work helping to create an aesthetic all his own.

Zach Puchowitz first experienced glassmaking in 1998. He became addicted very quick and built his first lampworking studio in ‘99 as well as began studying glass at the Tyler School of Art. While avoiding learning anything useful, Zach was able to develop his understanding of the arts and glass as a material. He sharpened his hand skills in the flame-working and furnace glass studios while developing his creative process. After graduating in 2003 he spent a year in Burlington VT thawing ice as a resident artist at local glass shops. Needing more perspective, Zach traveled throughout Europe for 3 months while he grew out his beard and pondered life.
He then decided to return to his native Philadelphia, shave his face, and establish his own multi format glass shop. In 2007 he began transforming the space that would later become Ouchkick Studio. Since then, Zach has experimented with different avenues of the conventional glass artist. He has, returned to his alma mater to given slide lectures, he has been a teacher at local glass shops, he has been privileged to work with and be the teaching assistant for the late Venetian Maestro, ELio Quarisa. He has shown work in galleries in Philadelphia, NYC, LA, “SOFA” Chicago, as well as many other unconventional events and marketplaces. Eventually Zach has become immersed and well known in a subculture of taboo glass making. Currently Zach is making glass everyday and loving it.
HERB IRON talks with DABS MAGAZINE for an exclusive interview.
Does your medical condition make using lighters painful and difficult? Tired of constantly buying expensive butane lighters only to have your friends accidentally pocket them? Some switch to expensive vaporizers, but in our experience, most come back to their cherished glass collection, especially if you enjoy full flavored tobacco or extracts. If you spend money on quality glass, quality tobacco and legal herbs, why ruin the taste with butane and sulfur. Others have turned to using ceramic tipped soldering irons in order to remove butane lighters from the smoking and medicating process but these can be dangerous if left plugged in. The Herb-Iron uses a quality 25 watt ceramic heating element that is activated with a simple push of a button.
